Since May 1994, Azerbaijan and Armenia have been living in a state of "neither peace, nor war". This condition could not but affect the mood in the societies.
From "the war to a victorious end" to "we have lost the battle, but not the war"
In the period of active confrontation (including the use of military force) from 1988 to 1994, the society preferred the slogan of "a war to its victorious end".

If we consider 1988 our reference point, our conflict is almost 30 years old. Only a few months short. Until 1992, that is, before the official collapse of the USSR, the Karabakh conflict developed "in an autonomous mode." Immediately after the collapse of the USSR, this conflict became another nuisance for the international community.

In the recent years the pendulum of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has been fluctuating between war and peace in an increasingly unhindered, acute and unexpected manner, approaching the highest peak of risk level. In particular, during the four-day April war it had almost approached the scenario of a large-scale war, which, if unfolded, would render all the parties to the conflict and the region unable to come out of the post-conflict rehabilitation stage for decades.

On May 22-23 an online conference "The Karabakh Conflict in the Context of Political Processes in Armenia and Azerbaijan - 2018" was held on the Public Dialogues website The conference was organized within the framework of the “Public Dialogues for Communication between Armenian and Azerbaijani Specialists” project, implemented by the Region Research Center.

This project aims to study the characteristics of media coverage with regard to the attitudes persisting in various strata of the Armenian society towards the “nation-army” concept, officially proclaimed and practically implemented in the life of the country since the end of 2016, but legislatively brought to public attention in autumn 2017.
